The Day Before Exam:

C.T. Scan of Head or

C.T. Scan Soft Tissue Neck:
(Weight limit: 450 lbs.) Do not eat anything 4 hours before appointment time. You may have clear liquids until 1 hr. before appointment time. Take medications as needed.
C.T. Abdoment & Pelvis
C.T. Pelvis
Drink 15 oz. oral contrast by 10:00 p.m. night before exam. Do not eat anything 4 hrs. before appt. time. You may have clear liquids until 1 hr. before appt. time. Take medications as needed. Upon arrival you will be given up to 38 oz. of oral contrast to drink.
C.T. Scan of Abdomen
C.T. Angiography
Do not eat anything 4 hours before appointment time. You may drink clear liquids until 1 hr. before appt. time. Take medications as needed. Upon arrival you will be given up to 36 oz. of oral contrast to drink.
Hepatobiliary Scan (Nuclear Medicine)
Bone Scan (Nuclear Medicine)

M.R.I. Without Contrast
M.R.I. With Contrast
- Screening mammogram, if asymptomatic. If symptomatic, diagnostic mammograms and additional views and/or ultrasound, if deemed necessary.
- Wear a two-piece outfit. Do not wear powders, creams, or deodorant from neck to waist.
Upper GI
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) after midnight the night before examination.
Barium Enema
The Day Before Exam:
- Drink an 8 oz. Glass of water every 2 hours from 12 noon until bedtime.
- For all meals, starting at lunch, have clear liquids only–such as tea, coffee, Jello.
- Take 1 bottle of Magnesium Citrate at 3-4 p.m.
- Take 3 Dulcolax tablets at 6-7 p.m.
- Nothing by mouth after midnight, not even water.
- Nothing by mouth, not even water. Take any daily medications with a small amount of water.
- Use 2 Dulcolax suppositories, one at a time. After insertion of each suppository, wait at least 15 minutes before evacuating even if the urge is strong.
Small Bowel Series
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) after midnight the night before examination.
IVP
- Take 10 oz. of Magnesium Citrate at 3 p.m. the day before examination.
- Only clear broth, tea, or coffee for dinner the day before exam.
- No solid food after midnight. You may drink clear liquids up until appointment time.
Abdominal Ultrasound
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) after midnight the night before examination.
Pelvis Ultrasound
- Drink 40 ounces (1-1/4 quarts) of liquid 1 hour prior to appointment time. Full bladder necessary for exam.

- Do not use any narcotics (codeine, Demerol, morphine or any derivative) 24 hours prior to the study.
Bone Scan (Nuclear Medicine)
- Drink fluids after injection. Following injection you may leave and return at designated time.
Thyroid Scan (Nuclear Medicine)
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) 4 hours before or 2 hours after taking pills.
M.R.I. Without Contrast
- No preparation. You may eat or drink as desired. Take medications as needed.
M.R.I. With Contrast
- Do not eat anything 4 hours prior to appointment time. You may have clear liquids up until appointment time. Take medications as needed.
